L’ATLAS – SEBASTIEN PRESCHOUX – TANC

“Optical Art is a term used to describe certain practical and artistic searches made ​​from the 60s, and exploiting the fallibility of the eye through optical illusions and games.

The works are always abstract. The most famous pieces are made of black and white and give the impression of movement, burst of light and vibration or alternating movements.

These visual solicitations place the viewer’s body in an unstable position, between pleasure and displeasure, immersed in dizziness close to lightly drunkenness. “

L’Atlas works with the aerosol with the first inspiration of the classical Arabic calligraphy and of the urban construction.

Sebastien Preschoux, influenced by the optical art and the teachings of the Bauhaus, proposes works on paper using traditional tools.

Tanc offers a vibratory work, musical based on the line and the frequency.

TANC is a musician plastic artist.

Born in Paris May 11, 1979, he lives and works in Paris.

Tanc grew up with graffiti. He believes that street art is ephemeral and that action is more important than the result.

For him “artist is a lifestyle” the investment must be total and the integrity absolute.

In the early 2000s he concentrated on studio work and stands out immediately from traditional graffiti artists by his work on the line. A research on the synthesis. First of his name, then the tags in general, then people, music, and finally of his favorite subject: life.

Essentially based on the line, his work does not try to be perfect, but rather spontaneous. It is the state in which he is who will define its density and rigor. His heartbeat drives his arm like a metronome, he must not try to control the flow but just to understand the composition that it makes appear, in balance between his conscious and unconscious.

He composes his music and his paintings by a spontaneous manner. He is heavy or light, tough or unstructured, TANC is not playing, he lives his art.

L’ATLAS is a french artist born in France in 1978.

He starts to do Graffiti in the 90′s.

Fascinated with the line and writing’s work, he goes to study in 1999 in Beni Mellal with Smaïl Bour-Quaiba, then the contemporary calligraphy with Mounir Al Shaarani in Caire in 2000.

He takes special interest in the Kufi, a geometric calligraphy which he transposes the codes in the Latin alphabet, creating his own typography.

Stronger with his experience and without stopping his interventions in the street, he develops a pictorial universe where each letter is considered as a shape, and every shape as a letter. Little by little, the city itself appears to him loaded with signs whose he collects the almost abstract trail, with some printing system.

Sebastien Preschoux is a french artist born in 1974

Deeply touched by the optical art, but also by the values of the teaching of the Bauhaus lauding an instruction centred on the fundamental value of the manual labor, Sébastien created indefatigably more and more complex drawings being able to compete with what a machine could produce in a few moments.

By this approach he knew how to create a visual confusion at the spectator who can bring this last one to wonder about the origin (human or mechanical) of his works.

But only while approaching the spectator will have been able to identify the stigmas of the passage of the human hand, the attitude which Sébastien names the reward of the curious. His work does not limit itself to a production in 2 dimensions, but finds a correspondence in 3 dimensions by means of thread installations, often realized in natural environment, so offering a perfect freedom both in term of size and variety.

For it he works in association with the photographer Ludovic LE COUSTER, who works with argentic cameras.

Sébastien develops his work towards a bigger humanization of his drawings by accepting the fallibility of his hand, by provoking the imperfection, by looking for the difficulty bringing him in to cross the technical performance.

To be made, he has chooses to work on bigger sizes, using new materials and tools, breaking with a symmetry clearly assumed in his previous creations.

During his previous personal exhibition «Mechanical Sensivity», in September, 2010, in David Bloch Gallery, Sébastien presented us a set of, sometimes complex, often hypnotic, drawings, including an exploration of the color while playing at most on the confusion between human or mechanical production.

For its new personal exhibition («Optical Disorder» in David Bloch Gallery from march 2nd till 31st 2012), Sébastien develops its work towards a bigger humanization of its drawings by accepting the fallibility of his hand, by provoking the imperfection, by looking for the difficulty bringing him in to crosss the technical performance. To be made, he has chooses to work on bigger sizes, using new materials and tools, breaking with a symmetry clearly assumed in its previous creations. This series of drawings will be accompanied with photos ( big size) realized with his friend photographer Ludovic LE COUSTER.
